I'm going to reiterate the fact that lynching lurkers is a good tactic.
1) Even if you believe that lynching a lurker has the same success rate for finding Mafia as lynching randomly - Put simply, endgame is far easier if you have a wealth of information on the people remaining. If one of the endgamers is a lurker, it is very hard to work out whether or not they are scum.
2) It encourages active play - People are going to post more if they will be lynched for lurking. More posts is definitely better - more chance of scum slipping up, more text to analyse, more analyses posted.
3) It sustains interest in the game. The game will go quicker, and by endgame you will not have all the players disinterested in the game and effectively voting randomly, a la Nickrole.
That's 3 good reasons, even if you don't think that there are a greater percentage of scum among the lurkers.
Now I aim to prove that more Lurkers are scum than not.
1) Lurking is an anti-town action - You provide less information for other players to analyse. It's generally only done because you don't want to trip up and reveal that you're Mafia. People will say "But lurking is a valid strategy! Pro-town players can slip up - we don't want to come under fire!" or the like. That is a selfish action. Yes, it is possible you will come under analysis - me in this game is a great example - but lurking only helps yourself and not the town. Sure, again people will say "I'm sure me dying isn't good for the town either" which is correct, but stupid. People lynch people who slip up because it's more likely that someone who slips up is Mafia. On average, it is more likely that you will assist the town than get yourself killed.
Not lurking is also good for pro-town players in another way
If you are relatively active, it is more likely that a Doctor will protect you. If you are active and don't act scummy, people will believe in you. If you are active and act slightly scummy, you will probably be investigated. This is a good thing for pro-town players - it means that they will have other people who know that they are pro-town, and will likely defend them.
Lurking is only a pro-town action when you are doing it because you are a cop or doctor and don't want to be targetted. However, I disagree with this tactic too. The Mafia knows you aren't Mafia, and given that you are lurking, it is more likely that they will target lurkers, thinking that they are a power role, unless there are active players who are more notable. It would be better if we hid a book in a bookcase, tree in a forest, active poster in an active game of Mafia. If everyone posts a lot, you aren't going to stand out.
Not to mention
Guys, it sucks for the game if you don't post. It makes it less fun. It stagnates. So post more.
So, yeah. With that, it means that lynching lurkers is not only a valid strategy to promote an easier end-game for the town, it also is more likely to be done by Mafia members as it is an anti-town action.
So vote Tigerlion, Megatriorchis or Rodan.
